สม	คุณอินทร์ครับ ผมมาเยี่ยมคุณเสมอแต่คุณไม่เคยอธิบายถึง การทำนาให้ผมฟังเลย การทำนายากไหมครับ
	I come to visit you all the time, but you've never explained anything about farming to me. Is farming difficult?
อินทร์	ไม่ยากเลยครับ ใครๆก็ทำได้ แต่ต้องลงแรงและเวลานิดหน่อย เท่านั้น
	Not at all; anybody can do it, but you have to expend a little time and energy, that's all.
สม	คุณเริ่มปลูกข้าวเดือนอะไรล่ะครับ
	What month do you start planting rice?
อินทร์	เราเริ่มในเดือนมิถุนายนครับ หลังฝนตกสักครั้งหรือสองครั้ง ก่อนนั้นดินในนาแข็งมาก เราไถนาไม่ได้ เมื่อไถนาเสร็จแล้ว เราก็หว่านเมล็ดข้าว การปลูกข้าวนั้นมีอยู่สองวิธี วิธีหนึ่งย้าย ต้นข้าวอ่อนๆไปปลูกที่อื่นแต่อีกวิธีหนึ่งเราไม่ย้าย
	We start in June after it has rained once or twice. Before that the ground in the fields is too ('very') hard; we can't plow. When the plowing is done, we sow the seed. There are two methods of rice- cultivation. One method is to move the tender shoots of rice and plant them in another place; but [by] the other method we don't transplant.
สม	เมื่อข้าวงอกแล้ว คุณทำอะไรบ้างครับ
	When the rice's growing, what is there to do?
อินทร์	ระว่างฤดูฝนตั้งแต่เดือนมิถุนายนถึงเดือนตุลาคมเราไม่ต้องทำ อะไรเลย เพียงแต่คอยดูว่าต้นข้าวขึ้นเขียวดีและมีน้ำพอหรือไม่ เท่านั้น ถ้าฝนตกไม่พอ เราต้องทดน้ำเข้านา
	During the rainy season from June to October, we don't have to do anything, [we] merely wait and see whether the rice-plants are growing green and nice and have enough water or not. If the rainfall is insufficient, we have to irrigate.
สม	การทดน้ำเข้านานั้นคุณทำอย่างไรล่ะครับ
	How is irrigation accomplished?
อินทร์	เราต้องช่วยกันทำนบที่แม่น้ำหรือคลองที่อยู่ใกล้ๆ แล้วให้น้ำไหล เข้านา
	We have to get together ('help one another') [and] make a dam in a river or canal nearby; then let the water flow into the fields.
สม	คุณสีข้าวอย่างไรครับ
	How do you mill the rice?
อินทร์	เราใช้เครื่องมือทำด้วยไม้ที่ บ้านหรือว่าจะเอาไปที่โรงสีให้เขาสี ให้ก็ได้
	We can either do it with ('use') wooden tools at home, or else we can take it to the mill and hire it done ('hire them to mill it for us').
