Point 9. The words ciN and caN

English ภาษาไทย
  Is [that] true?   จริงไหม
  The weather's fine ('truly nice')
  today.
  วันนี้อากาศดีจริง หรือ วันนี้
  อากาศดีจัง

The word ciN means 'to be true; truly, really' whereas caN means only 'truly, really'. Therefore ciN can be used as the main verb of the sentence (as in the first example above) or it can be used to modify the main verb of the sentence (as in the second example). The word caN, on the other, can only be used as a modifier. The two words are of course related, caN being merely a modified form of ciN which has come to be used in certain circumstances, but not in others.
