|Point 5. Speech among intimates|
There are many styles of speech used among intimates. For example, women often use cha4n 'I' and thəּ 'you' when speaking to other women who are their intimate friends. Men, on the other hand, use a variety of other terms. Illustrated in the Basic Sentences of this unit we find raw used for 'I' (Sentence No. 7) and the given name of the hearer used for 'you' (Sentence No. 1). Note carefully that this is a special use for raw. When raw is used in its ordinary sense meaning 'we', then its use is not restricted to the speech of intimates.
