The Philippines
is both singular and plural: 
singular in that it is a relatively
unified nation,

in that it is fragmented
between
Christians, Muslims,
and other religio-ethno-linguistic
groups;

urban and rural peoples;
between
upland and lowland peoples; 
and between
    the rich and the poor.

Majority of the population
(about 80 percent)
are Roman Catholic,

who live mostly in
the southern part
of the
Philippines.

in the country,
where approximately
10 million people live.
