Pronunciation Notes 3
  1. Use these phrases to help you pronounce /t/.   Remember it is unaspirated, like the "t" in the word "stop" but not the "t" in "top."  Listen, and repeat the phrases, then try to say the words beginning with /t/ individually.

    For example,

      cff8tg;ao dE3Et tawe2n sunshine
      g[af8yf be2t tit stuck hook
      d;f8k kua3t taa check the eyes
      giafc8d he#t tE3Ek to break
      ]kf8tg;ao la1at tawe2n patrol
  2. Note that "khO4O tho1ot" 0=3mf   has two long vowels "OO" vvand "oo" 3{"oo" is not a glide.  It does not sound like the English word "oh".  The lips and tongue should not change position while you are saying "oo".  Be sure the "th" is aspirated.       

     

  3. The "ua" g  nv  of "mua2N"  g,nv'    is unrounded.  Compare "mua2N" and "mua2N".                                                                                                
  4. Note that "amee2likaa" vg,iydk    has two long vowels.

     

  5. Not the pronunciation of "Vientiane", "wia2Ncan" Xg;up'9ao?.
  6. "ua" X{atin "lua4N" Xs];'     is a vowel.  It is a single syllable not two.  There is no "w" sound.  Try not to say "luwaaN".
  7. "kho2n" X7qo?    has a short rounded vowels which sounds something like the vowel "o" in the English word "core".  Compare the following.
