INTRODUCTION

The Philippine tropical climate has been favorable for growing all kinds of vegetables. They are especially fond of backyard-grwon veggies such as zuchini (patola), bitter melon (ampalaya), string beans (sitaw),   squash/pumpkin (kalabasa) and eggplant (talong) .  Filipinos even have an old folk song entitled bahay kubo which mentions well known veggies grown in the Philippines.   

Filipinos typically stir fry (gisa), grill (ihaw), steam or boil (pakuluan) thei gulay. These dishes are often accompanied by one's favorite deeping sauce or sawsawan.
