Filipino Sari-Sari Store or Tindahan

With its conspicuous billboard and a fašade of regularly arranged garapons (bottle jars) with a screen to shield it from theft, it sits there at a strett junction, bidding everybody welcome.

A retailer of basic commodities, it is a perfect 'run to' station in the Pinoys' struggling lifestyle.

Teenagers love to hang around the place to buy stick after stick of Marlboro cigarettes, and sometimes, gulping a bottle of softdrink, which is a criss-cross between satisfying a thirst or a vice.

The pinoy sari-sari store also sells gossips and the currency used in new and additional rumor. It is an information highway where data is obtained at the click of a "mouth".

In late afternoons, children would mill around the mini establishment gawking at the glittering junkies and tugging at their parents to buy, and parents would dotingly buy that which they didn't want, or spank them id they insist.

At dusk, the men would come lumbering by and sit themselves at the makeshift bench to leisurely drink and smoke and towards midnight, list everything on credit.

It is difficult to imagine what life would be like without a sari-sari store. As it is, it has become integral to the Pinoys' sociocultural and economic lifestyle.
