(Words & music by Dennis & Rene Garcia)

Composers' Note: San Francisco had a song. So did New York.
Even Zamboanga had one. So how come Manila
had none? That realization in 1976 provoked
Dennis to write the classic "Manila". The
lyrics had to vividly echo the vibrant spirit
of the city and Rene felt the melody had to
be "street smart" but heartwarming.
To further distill the essence of Manila,
Dennis sent out his aide (Julian Diego) to
roam Quiapo armed with a portable cassette
and record "ambience". He captured -
on tape - the song's immortal "Quiapo... Quiapo...
isa na lang aalis na". (And this was years
before "sampling" was 'invented'!)

Maraming beses na kitang nilayasan
Iniwanan at iba ang pinuntahan
Parang babaeng mahirap talagang malimutan
Ikaw lamang ang aking laging binabalikan
Manila, Manila
I keep coming back to Manila
Simply no place like Manila
Manila, I'm coming home

I've walked the streets of San Francisco
I've tried the rides in Disneyland
Dated a million girls in Sydney
Somehow I feel like I don't belong

Hinahanap-hanap kita, Manila
Ang ingay mong kay sarap sa tenga
Mga jeepney mong nagliliparan
Mga babaeng mong naggagandahan
Take me back in your arms, Manila
And promise me you'll never let go
Promise me you'll never let go

(Repeat refrain/Instrumental/Repeat chorus)

Manila, Manila
Miss you like hell, Manila
No place in the world like Manila
I'm coming home to stay
