Semana Santa. Tithing. Vesper. Fasting. The EDSA Shrine. These are just a few of the icons of religion that one encounters in the Philippines. The country is well-known as the only pre-dominantly Christian country in Asia.
Filipinos are by far considered a religious, at the least rite-profuse, people. And religious tensions, just like in any other place on earth, have characterized specific periods and some corners of the land.
This module will introduce readers to the myriads of beliefs, religious customs and traditions in the Philippines. While the world's major spiritual groups command huge followings in the country, it is also host to smaller sects and denominations, and together they play important roles in the social, economic, and political life of Filipinos.
