Tagalog verbs are marked for aspect (which focuses on if an event is finished, not yet finished, or yet to be started) rather than tense (which focuses on an event as occurring in the past, present, or future). Therefore, in order to indicate tense in Tagalog, extra words that express information about when an event takes place need to be added to the sentence. These words are called time indicators.
This section presents some of the most common time indicators associated with particular verbal aspects.
The song on this introductory page shows examples of time indicators.
