A conjunction is a certain type of word that is used to add extra thoughts into a sentence (like the word and in English). The word conjunction comes from Latin: com means together and junction ultimately comes from the Latin word join. So the word conjunction means "to join together." The following sentence is an example of the use of conjunction in English:

I bought a doughnut

This is my first thought. Now, let's say I want to add on something else to the sentence. To do this I would need to use a conjunction like and.

I bought a doughnut and danced in the streets.
