Monday Meeting Minutes

October 20, 2003

6:00-7:00 pm, HSC 403

 

Attendance: Mary, Jason, Lyndy, Nick, Dom, Lee, Michelle Duffy, Tia, Maggie, Michael, Kashfi, Jenn

 

Indonesia Culture Night: 10/24 – Newman Center

-         programs: edited, Mary to revise and print

-         Tia & Dom: send Mary and Indonesian quote, etc. for the program by Wednesday night

-         We did have an article appear in the Northern Star

-         Rehearsal: 3:00pm at Newman Center

-         Mary & Jenn to be at Newman Center at 3:00pm to set up, anyone else who wants to come help is welcome (Maggie, Lee, Tia)

-         Mary, Nick, Jason: bring coolers

-         Mary & Jason: bring backup cd players

-         Tia: talk to guitar guy (Phil) about learning the song – if he can’t, Jason will bring his laptop for the vcd karaoke

-         Drinks and supplies have been bought

-         Mary: tell cooking volunteers (Nick, Dom, Jason) where to go

-         We have emphasized with everyone to be on time and will be keeping in contact via cell phone leading up to the beginning of the program

-         Jason: look for table paper

-         Jenn: bring duct tape, tickets, and information from the Center

-         Lyndy: sell meals and tickets

-         Michelle: sell drinks

-         Tia: bring background music cds

-         Jason: talk to Anne Parsons about putting up a museum table

-         Maggie, Lee, Mary, Jenn: clean up, everyone else who is available please stick around to help us clean up afterwards

-         Michael: taking care of honorarium paperwork

-         Jenn: verify time with Dr. Han (4:30?)

-         Jenn: provide cell phone list to Jason, Mary, Nick, Dom, Tia

 

Philippine Night: 11/21 – Emmanuel Lutheran Center

-         Mary & Jenn: meet with PSA president tonight to discuss particulars

-         Pintig – professional Philippine group – should we have them as our only act? – if so, ensure the length of their performance and negotiate a price

 

Student Paper Conference:

-         award money comes from the Center = $150 prize for undergrad paper & $250 prize for grad paper

-         Next week we will discuss and decide on a keynote speaker

-         Conference information is updated on the web site

-         We already have one abstract!

-         We have reserved the Regency Room in the HSC but are still investigating a smart classroom in Dusable and possibly also the Art Building (but most likely not the Art Building)

-         We have 20 slots for paper presentations and will select the top 20 of the papers submitted – our goal, however, is to get people from outside of NIU

 

Movie Night: 11/6

-         We will get together after the reception for John Brandon

 

COTS: 11/8

-         we need to know ASAP if anyone else is interested in going with us to COTS (Council of Thai Studies) in Madison, WI on 11/8 because we need to make sure we have sufficient transportation reserved
